Double trouble

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have actually been able to avoid the trappings of tacky celebrity clothing lines. House of Dereon anyone? Their label 'The Row' is fully chic in it's simplicity. Modern but understated, luxurious fabrics, well tailored cuts, and hefty prices, have garnered them a cult like following in the best of basics category. They were so serious about it wanting to be about the clothing and not their personas they almost considered using a front person when they started the line. I wonder if this video had something to do with it....

If the glass slipper fits

"Forget them, Wendy. Forget them all. Come with me where you'll never, never have to worry about grown up things again!" There's a scary case of Peter Pan syndrome going on on the red carpets of late. While I'm definately an advocate for dressing up and the age is just a number lifestyle....When you walk a red carpet and your age is closer to your European shoe size then American, please don't come at us looking like a Disneyland employee. Considering the rumours surrounding Zac Posens dickishness I hope you found another prince charming at the Met Ball. The theme of this years Met Ball was "American WOMAN"....I guess you didn't get the memo PUMPKIN!
Coco Rocha is a model and a damn good one a that. This is the first dress she designed for her new collection. Are you fucking kidding?!!! Halloween Superstores everywhere are calling to place orders.
All right I'm almost guilty as charged myself. Upon leaving the house last week to a party my roomate noted my resemblance to Alice's favourite creepy crawler. I blame the hookah.

Simply beautiful

Much hoopla is being made over the new Givenchy ads. While I think it's important for people to talk about it, I'm just too busy looking at yet another great Givenchy campaign.... A beautiful photo, of beautiful people, wearing beautiful clothes. Get into it.

Cinco de what?!

I SAY YES: "In victory, you deserve Champagne, in defeat, you need it" Napolean. For the first time in 50 years the Goliath that was Napolean and the French army were defeated by the little David of a Mexican army. On the fifth of May 1862 in the town of Puebla 4000 badly armed mexican fighters defeated an 8000 heavily armed French army...Cinco De Mayo!! The French were actually making their way up to fight their real enemy the USA who were busy fighting the confederacy. The confederate rebels would have loved the help of Napolean on their side but the Mexicans squashed the notion....While a bit of a stretch, one could almost say those 4000 Mexicans is why the civil war ended. Basically it's the one day where the US celebrates the Mexicans in their country. Forget the champagne and bust out the margaritas! Just don't get too drunk, it's a one day affair, and the pendejos in Ariziona will be back to rounding people up...Viva la raza.
GOES WELL WITH:While everyone was out getting shit faced on margaritas, I was eating homemade mexican food and reading my new book 'Self Portrait in A Velvet Dress' which painstakingly documents every piece of Frida's wardrobe, explaining where the traditional pieces came from, the methods in which they were made, and their relation to Frida. I spent much time in Mexico City and it was a last minute choice to move to NY instead of DF. I spent the day sadly dreaming of what I gave up....Perdoname mi Teotihuacan para dejarle...estoy siempre tu chilangita en mi corazon. By the end of the day I was ready to celebrate, so I popped on my favourite handwoven rebozo and hit the party...I think Guadalupe would be proud!
SOUNDTRACK: DF girl band Las Ultrasonicas In between buying bootleg cumbia cd's off the street, this is one of my fave bands from Mexico City. These girls are nasty....check out "Vente en Mi Boca" if you don't believe me...babelfish that one paisanos!

She's a maniac

When I was young I had a crush on Jennifer Beales in Flashdance...or maybe it was just that I wanted to be her...anyways I was getting dressed for my Family Function party last saturday and was going for this Syrian renegade look that slowly started to unravel. Instead of fighting the fashion, i went with it's flow. I sort of ended up with a Tim Burton meets Siouxsie Soux in a post apocalyptic alley. When the party pics came back I realized I finally was as close to Flashdance as I'm ever gonna be, dancing like a maniac, maniac on the floor....

In a sad case of Mean Girls gone wrong a man in China died after he passed out drunk and his "friends" thought it would be funny to stick a live eel in his rectum. The eel proceeded to eat his intestines from the inside till death. If you want more the goddman news...I on the other hand was thinking about being at YSL last week and still admiring those eel skin pumps. I loved the way they felt and the colour was so deep that I figured it was yet another miracle of YSL... or that maybe there's something to that aquatic intestine eater. Upon a little digging I learnt eel skin is extremly soft yet remarkably durable, take colour well, and behold my heart that struggles with the mean things we do to animals for fashion, me included :( .... in this case it's a by-product so eels aren't killed just for their skins....and because they're water babies, you guessed it their skin can handle a good April shower. The moral of the story is, while sometimes it's okay to let friends stick things up your butt when should leave the eels, to your heels. Gianmarco Lorenzi fuschia pink eel pumps.

Braid Brigade

We haven't had a true honest goodness CUNTASiA in a while....Braids seem to be de rigeur these days, which is all fine and dandy but this takes it to heights that even my hairdresser hadn't imagined (I've already sent him the pics, and have been making demands but he claims I wouldn't be able to dance in it. HA!...we'll see about that!!) The Vitra Design museum and the Centre de Geroges Pompidou have workshops throughout the summer at the Domaine de Boisbuchet where they invite known architects artists and designers to combine forces and create a project together. Past projects have included elements of design, graphic arts, photography, to jewelry. This year one workshop's main ingredient was hair...Cuntasia!!!!!
